BREEAM (BRE Environmental Assessment Method) and LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), are internationally-recognised green building certification systems. The certifications promote sustainable building and development practices that recognise projects that implement strategies for better environmental and health performance.
BREEAM is the preferred scheme for a number of the national Green Building Councils across Europe, including the UK, Netherlands, Norway and others. 425,000 buildings have certified BREEAM assessment ratings and two million registered for assessment since it was first launched in 1990.
LEED is a green building certification program that recognises best-in-class building strategies and practices. To receive LEED certification, building projects satisfy prerequisites and earn points to achieve different levels of certification. More than 72,000 projects are participating in LEED across 150+ countries and territories.
Along with savings in energy efficiency, BREEAM and LEED also measure the characteristics of the products installed within a building and Powerstar, manufactured to BS171-IEC60076-IEC60726 and accredited with the internationally recognised, ISO9001/ISO14001 accreditations and the renowned Made in Sheffield manufacturing mark of excellence is a product manufactured to the highest standards using high quality components.
Powerstar has also been designed so that over 98% is recyclable (another BREEAM and LEED measurement).
A further important measurement is energy monitoring. Powerstar comes with a Real Time Monitoring and targeting system which enables companies to monitor energy usage as well as target further energy reductions.
Dr Alex Mardapittas, inventor of the VIRTUE energy storage solution and Managing Director of Powerstar, emphasises how electricity supply issues have become an increasingly common problem within the UK electricity network. Recent power failures at multiple airports highlight the dangers of unprotected supplies in a world reliant on technology. With modern advances in technology, increasing...
