The Swann-Morton Group are keen to minimise the environmental impact of its business operations and proactively seek to reduce their carbon emissions through their Environmental Management System.

THE CUSTOMER

The prestigious Swann-Morton Group are world leaders in the manufacture of surgical blades, scalpels and handles. A Sheffield based company founded in 1932, Swann-Morton have become global market leaders and an industry pioneer.

THE CHALLENGE

The quality of manufacturing operations, emphasised by Swann-Morton’s accreditation of the Made in Sheffield mark of excellence, is a key differential for the company.

The challenge facing Swann Morton was to implement a proven and reliable technology that was able to effectively reduce on-site energy consumption without affecting any of the operations and manufacturing processes.

Learning of EMSc (UK) Ltd and their market leading Powerstar voltage optimisation system through the Made in Sheffield association, Swann-Morton approached EMSc (UK) Ltd to conduct a free of charge site survey at their site and provide a thorough analysis of potential savings from voltage optimisation.

Being able to utilise a local based company who offer a UK manufactured product was a key factor for Swann Morton. The fact that Powerstar also carries the Made in Sheffield accreditation, provided additional reassurances on the quality of manufacture.

THE SOLUTION

Like Swann-Morton Powerstar place emphasis in showcasing the quality of British Manufacturing and are proud holders of the Made in Sheffield accreditation.

In addition to the manufacturing quality of the Powerstar system, Swann Morton were impressed with the project management approach adopted by EMSc (UK) Ltd.

The company benefited from the appointment of a dedicated project engineer who ensured that the system was installed with minimum disruption to business operations.

Along with facilitating the installation, the dedicated project engineer acted as the main contact for the client and managed the process throughout, dealing with any problems, concerns and questions from Swann Morton throughout.

THE BUSINESS BENEFITS

The installation of Powerstar has delivered Swann Morton annual electricity consumption savings of 9.9%, and has reduced site CO2  by 102.5 tonnes.

Financially Swan Morton are benefiting from reductions in electricity costs of £11,559 per annum.
