Whitbread is the power behind some of the UK’s most successful, much-loved hospitality brands including Premier Inn, Beefeater Grill, Brewers Fayre, Table Table, Taybarns and Costa Coffee.  It employs over 40,000 people worldwide and serves more than 10 million customers every month in the UK.

Powerstar worked closely with the Whitbread group Plc to understand its energy and carbon saving requirements and supplied over  400 voltage optimisation systems in a number of different Whitbread hotels and restaurants, chosen for their different energy profiles.

THE CHALLENGE

The Whitbread group strongly believes that  it should act as a force for good by supporting communities & protecting the environment.  They turned to Powerstar to help reduce the energy consumption and carbon footprint of their restaurants and hotels without affecting the facilities and services offered to guests. The Powerstar team were asked to demonstrate their acclaimed project-led approach to ensure that surveys and installations caused minimum disruption to guests and business operations.

THE SOLUTION

The installation of Powerstar voltage optimisation systems at Whitbread hotels and restaurants provided a no maintenance solution with a payback period that met Whitbread’s expectations. The savings from the Powerstar systems supported the company in reducing its direct electricity consumption and associated CO2 emissions – key goals in Whitbread’s ‘Good Together’ corporate responsibility policy.

SAVINGS & BENEFITS

Early results from the hotels and restaurants proved impressive with a number of large hotel installations outperforming the guaranteed minimum levels of cost savings set by Powerstar. With over 400 installs to date across various sites, Whitbread is a prime example of voltage optimisation in hospitality. To date 394 sites have been analysed  for their energy saving percentage post Powerstar installation and the average energy saving  across all sites is 12.35% with 12,062 tonne reduction in CO2 emissions the same as elimination emissions for 24,124 UK households every year.
