Introduction

Our free to attend breakfast seminar in Birmingham on Wednesday, 17 January will explore the importance of a decentralised energy network in the future energy landscape to deliver a more reliable and efficient smart power network.

A decentralised or distributed energy network is the opposite of the UK’s current traditional centralised network and refers to the process of utilising microgrids to generate local energy that maximises on renewables and energy efficiency.

This concept is continuously gaining momentum due to increasing fears over the resilience of the energy supplied from the grid due to the harsh statistics showing that blackouts or brownouts are becoming more frequent, with a staggering 46% increase recorded in 2016 compared to the number of occurrences in 2015.

Investment into smart systems will help decentralisation become a widespread reality as distributed generation will enable energy sources to be more effective, secure and efficient.

In addition to the decentralised concept, this seminar will explore the important role that battery-based energy storage can play in securing the supply and protecting against the aforementioned costly power failures by providing full Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) capabilities which can seamlessly kick in within a three-millisecond timeframe when a supply issue is detected to protect from expensive power failures.

Seminar Overview

Registration for the seminar opens at 8.30am with refreshments and networking starting at 9.00am. The seminar begins at 9.30am and after the presentation finishes there will be a Q&A session with Dr Alex Mardapittas.

This seminar will give delegates the chance to explore and discuss the current constraints on the electricity network and the supply issues across the UK which are causing a high demand for a complete, connected solution.

Refreshments and breakfast pastries will be provided for all attendees upon arrival, and the venue boasts free on-site parking and a 9 minute walk from the nearest train station.

Speaker Profile

Dr. Alex Mardapittas, Managing Director, Powerstar

Alex established Powerstar in 2001, and has spearheaded the engineering-led company for the past 16 years.

As an experienced Chartered Engineer, with a research doctorate, Alex possesses extensive knowledge of software programming and innovative engineering design, enabling him to create award winning energy management solutions.

Alex utilises his expert knowledge within the current and future energy landscapes, including his extensive knowledge of the constraints to constantly innovate. This knowledge of the current UK energy landscape and its limitations enables him to discuss predictions for its future.

Why Attend?

The seminar will address the following topics:

  • What is a decentralised energy network and how does it work?
  • How does UPS work and why is it needed?
  • The role of energy storage technology and UPS in a decentralised energy network
  • The limitations of traditional systems historically used to provide UPS
  • Why battery-based energy storage is becoming a popular alternative to those systems
  • Why battery-based energy storage is future proof, including how it is easily scaled to future demand
  • The ‘green’ benefits of UPS

During the seminar, guests will also be introduced to the innovative energy storage system, VIRTUE, which provides businesses with a completely secure supply through power loss and quality issues. Powerstar’s VIRTUE is delivered as a bespoke solution in an engineering-led approach, and so is tailored to each organisation and its needs.
