On March 8, 2017, the Advertising Standard Agency (ASA) made a ruling against Powerstar’s advertising claims. This was in relation to our statement that we can make savings on electrical equipment efficiencies, and that 20-30% of the savings a Powerstar voltage optimisation system can achieve is generated in this way.

Whilst we maintain that we can achieve this level of savings in this manner, we would like to clarify that this is not applicable to ALL electrical loads, there are few exceptions, including electrical heating loads (such as kettles). Therefore, we accept that the context surrounding the statement could have been misleading to some viewers, however, we do not believe this would be the case for the majority of our audience and we would never intentionally mislead our valued customers or the wider general public.

We have revised the advertisement and have refreshed our Powerstar product brochure to clarify the benefits of Powerstar, in addition to adding an independent verification section which substantiates the effectiveness of Powerstar solutions.

For the past 16 years we have grown Powerstar into the global market leader it is today through transparency of our claims, substantiating the savings we guarantee to deliver and our engineering led ethos which puts providing solutions to engineering problems at the forefront of how we trade. To this end, we welcome opportunities to prove the efficacy of our product range and would like to bring your attention to our most recent independent verification performed under laboratory conditions by the renowned Dolan Research Center in Ohio.

We provided a Powerstar system to the American Electric Power (AEP) Dolan Research centre where full tests were performed on compressors and pumps. AEP wanted to ensure that all tests were under laboratory conditions in order to clearly verify the effect of the Powerstar system.

The most important aspect of the AEP results is not only the kWh savings (6.7% at 15V reduction) but also the compressor timings. Time to achieve the same output from same input conditions was also slightly reduced. Therefore with Powerstar in circuit, there was 6.7% energy saving and it took the compressor slightly less time to do the same job.

This provides clear evidence that running equipment at their design characteristics not only reduces the energy consumption but also improves the effectiveness of equipment. It is our unique Powerstar patented design that allows such savings in energy (kWh) to be achieved on a load.
