The Department of Business Innovation and Skills (BIS) are responsible for enabling the private sector to grow, removing conditions that can stifle development. Almost everything that BIS does – from investing in skills to making markets more dynamic and reducing regulation, and from promoting trade to boosting innovation and helping people start and grow a business – helps drive growth.

THE CHALLENGE

BIS identified that not only was the incoming voltage high, but that the sites were also suffering from poor power quality.
A solution was required that would not only drop the incoming voltage levels but also significantly improve power quality.

The UK designed and manufactured Powerstar voltage optimisation system, with its unique patented design proved to be the ideal solution.

THE SOLUTION

The engineering expertise and project led approach of the Powerstar team ensured they were able to tailor the correct solution for BIS to not only optimise savings but assist with engineering issues of power quality on site.

Seven Powerstar systems were installed into BIS buildings each delivering immediate savings in energy consumption and electricity bills.

The unique triple wound design of the Powerstar voltage optimisation system enabled high levels of harmonics (electrical noise) to be removed which improved the power quality.

The installation of a Powerstar unit at LVB2, The Department of Business and Industry has no available data for the two meters, the meter was changed out and BIS have not had data since.

The installation of a Powerstar unit at LVE, The Department of Business and Industry experienced a rise in occupancy which caused change in base load. Without quantifiable figures for this change no comparable consumption data is available for savings analysis.
