NB the Amann Group acquired Oxley Threads during 2008
Oxley Threads Limited – based in Ashton under Lyne – is a manufacturer of high quality threads. As part of a drive to reduce the environmental impact at the company’s spinning Mill Powerstar were commissioned to investigate the savings in electricity consumption and CO2 emissions that voltage optimisation would deliver.
Oxley Threads has been manufacturing threads since 1860. Now part of the Amann Group of companies Oxley Threads has a tradition of providing a superior product and the highest standards of service in the industry, linked to continual technical innovation.
The Amann Group takes its environmental responsibilities extremely seriously and is committed to reducing its consumption of primary energy.
At Oxley Threads the challenge was to use voltage optimisation to cut the consumption levels of electricity used by the company in order to lessen its carbon footprint and to reduce the cost of energy.
A 500kVA Powerstar system was able produce a 6.8% voltage reduction to the incoming supply at Oxley Threads.
This reduced total electricity consumption by 17.7%.
Based on a 10 working day measurement period before and after the installation of Powerstar, the average weekly consumption was reduced from 45,456kWh to 37,427kWh – a saving of 8,029kWh.
The Business Benefits
A reduction of 17.7% in electricity consumption has enabled the company to make savings on its electricity costs of £24,000 per annum.
CO2 emissions have also been reduced.
“Having the Powerstar unit installed and working in less than 4 weeks from order did indeed impress us but saving £2,000 a month on our electricity bill was even more impressive.“
