Albert Heijn (Hans Geveling BV)

INTRODUCTION

Hans Geveling BV is a company that has been in the supermarket business since 1972. The company maintains a number of operating companies that are active in the retail trade as well as the development and management of associated real estate. The company currently operates 12 franchised Albert Heijn Supermarkets.

Three core values identify the company:

THE CHALLENGE

All the Albert Heijn supermarkets analyse their processes to ensure they are working to the highest efficiency and, because of this, are always looking for ways to increase efficiency.

Voltage optimisation technology was identified as a viable solution to meet the company’s objectives, and Powerstar was selected due to its market leading reputation, engineering expertise, and matching sustainable ethos.

With the stores being open seven days a week the Powerstar Benelux team had to work at times that would cause as little disruption as possible to the day to day operations of the stores.

THE SOLUTION

Powerstar Benelux conducted a full site survey, which revealed 2 stores would benefit the most from voltage optimisation, and analysis of the load profile showed the voltage profiles to be stable but relatively high.

Powerstar Benelux recommended the installation of Powerstar LITE fixed voltage optimisation systems at both stores, as the oversupply of voltage was leading to a significant amount of wasted energy, causing excessively high electricity bills.

The Druten store had a maximum voltage of 244.9V which was higher than required for the equipment on site. The Powerstar LITE voltage optimisation system was installed to reduce the overvoltage bringing it in line with the design specifications of the equipment.

The second Powerstar LITE system was installed at the Montfoort Store. The maximum voltage at this site was slightly lower at 239V and will provide significant consumption savings.

SAVINGS & BENEFITS

The company is now seeing an average electricity consumption saving across both stores of 8.25% and this, in turn, has reduced the company’s electricity bills and CO2 emissions substantially.
