Jesmond Pool is a community managed leisure site operated by Jesmond Community Leisure in Newcastle upon Tyne, offering a full range of sporting and physical activities.
The centre includes a swimming pool as well as being home to 2 gyms, a multi purpose dance and activity room, massage and therapy room, and a poolside sauna and steam room.
The social enterprise has operated as a charity since its re-opening in 1992.
Due to extended opening hours and maintaining a wide variety of activities, the centre was looking for ways to reduce operational costs to allow capital to be freed up and reinvested into core business activities.
Jesmond Community Leisure actively looks to improve its energy efficiency and sustainability. It has already replaced its lighting with LEDs, updated its heating system and installed solar panels, making voltage optimisation a logical step to further contribute towards its energy consumption and cost saving goals.
As a customer focused business, it was imperative that the installation of any technology be carried out with minimal disruption to the comfort and enjoyment of Jesmond Pool’s customers.
After making contact with market leading voltage optimisation solution provider, Powerstar, a full and thorough survey of Jesmond Pool and its electricity consumption was carried out.
The survey revealed that the incoming voltage to Jesmond Pool was extremely high, with the maximum voltage recorded at 261.8V. Despite this, the average voltage was fairly stable, so Powerstar recommended the installation of a 179kVA Powerstar LITE voltage optimisation system to reduce the voltage by a fixed amount.
Following installation of the Powerstar LITE solution, Jesmond Pool is benefiting from an annual energy consumption reduction of 9.3%. This equates to a reduction of 27,207 kWh per year, and the centre is saving as much as £3,080 in annual electricity cost reductions.
