Lincolnshire Co-op has been in operation for over 150 years. Trading began in September 1861 with 74 members.
It is a successful, independent co-op that has over 215 outlets and over 270,000 members.
In 2015, Lincolnshire Co-op trialled Powerstar voltage optimisation in 4 food stores. The results from the trials showed an average reduction in electricity consumption of 8.2% across the 4 sites.
Following the results of the trial stores, Lincolnshire Co-op commissioned Powerstar to survey 56 more sites, which were a mix of food stores, pharmacies, warehouses and a bakery.
The 25 sites with the best payback and ROI were chosen to move forward with installations. These were 21 food stores, the head office building, a bakery, a chilled butchery warehouse and an ambient only food warehouse.
Powerstar approved contractors AES completed the voltage optimisation installations, working with Lincolnshire Co-op to plan for the effects on the store reordering IT systems (usually created after store closing hours), working with the Lincolnshire Co-op refrigeration contractor throughout the shutdown and ensuring the reduced voltage remained within the permitted tolerances of the onsite equipment.
SAVINGS AND BENEFITS
Following installation the project as a whole is providing a payback of under 4 years.
“We have experienced no issues or problems with the Powerstar equipment we have had fitted for the past year. The kit is robustly manufactured and electrically sound.”
