The client is a local authority based in the West Midlands. The local authority manages a wide range of services including schools, waste collection, parking and leisure facilities. They were looking primarily to minimise the risk of disruption to operations at its headquarters that it had been experiencing through an increasing number of blackouts and brownouts. Additionally the client was exploring ways to reduce its energy costs.
After a full and thorough site survey and analysis of the site requirements, Powerstar recommended the installation of a 250kW VIRTUE Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) combined with voltage regulation and UPS capabilities. The full UPS capabilities of Powerstar’s VIRTUE provides a site wide backup and keeps the local authority’s operations running seamlessly throughout instances of blackouts and brownouts.
The system, installed in 2017, is fully operational and is providing the site with an optimised voltage output, ability to access additional revenues through grid contracts and supply resilience with peace of mind through its UPS capabilities.
