Once a month, we’ll be sharing a morning coffee break with one of the Powerstar team to find out more insight into their day-to-day role and why they enjoy working within the Energy sector.
This month, we’ve caught up with our MAX Department Team Leader, Beckie Cusack, who has been with the business over seven years.
What was your first job role within the Energy Sector?
This is my first job in energy, and it’s actually my first ever job. I’ve been with Powerstar for nearly 8 years so I have progressed within the company and seen various changes in the sector.
Describe a typical day at Powerstar
As a team leader I focus on getting jobs organised and making sure my team know their jobs and deadlines. I work with a good team of people who get the job done, allowing me to assist with build units and supporting other departments when needed.
What do you enjoy the most about working in Energy?
There is always something new to learn! The sector is constantly changing and evolving so it is great to be challenged and regularly update the way we approach our work.
Are there any drawbacks to working in this sector?
Sometimes the advancements in the sector move at such a rapid speed, as a smaller company, it is challenging for us to have the man power to meet the required changes.
What’s your proudest achievement to date?
I think as someone who came to this company not knowing anything about the energy sector or electronics, to be in the position of team leader and completed an apprenticeship is something I’m very proud of.
Do you have any hobbies outside of work?
I enjoy going to shows such as music gigs or the theatre. Thanks to COVID rescheduling all events I’ve got plenty to look forward to.
If you had to give one piece of advice to people seeking jobs in energy, what would it be?
As there are so many areas within the energy sector, find an area which interests and engages you the most.
