Balancing Resilience with Net Zero
The race to achieve net zero, and mitigate the most damaging effects of rising global temperatures, means that companies are facing enormous changes in how they operate.
On Wednesday 19th May 2021, Powerstar’s Chief Commercial Officer, Alastair Morris, delivered an informative webinar on power resilience. Alastair explored the importance of becoming a power resilient organisation, alongside technologies available to help organisations achieve this goal within the context of a rapidly shifting energy landscape, which is heavily focused on electrification and the goal of net-zero carbon.
The webinar starts by considering the current energy landscape, and the journey that the energy system is currently on in the UK. Traditionally, the UK has maintained a stable centralised power system, where supply was matched to the demand of the users. In the twenty-first century, this is transitioning to a decentralised network made up of multiple generation sites from different power sources, where power is generated when conditions allow and storing excess energy to be used at more demanding times is becoming a necessity.
This shift in the energy landscape is happening at a time when you are becoming more dependant than ever on having a reliable power supply, recognising the importance of Power Resilience.
8/10 UK organisations experienced at least one power disruption in 2017. The impact of power disruptions such as; blackouts, brownouts, voltage drops and spikes as well as power fluctuations can be severe in settings such as hospitals, high-volume manufacturing, and defence.
This webinar will help you understand the issues power disruptions can cause, as well as how a bespoke power resilience solution can help protect your organisation from multiple operational risks, using real world examples to illustrate these benefits.
Alastair also discusses the benefits of such a bespoke solution in comparison to existing, traditional uninterruptible power supply (UPS) technologies. This is particularly important when existing traditional UPS systems do not meet all the needs of your site, and a requirement to drive forward net zero strategies means these traditional systems are no longer conducive to the overarching energy strategies of your organisation.

Fault currents present a threat to your site’s power infrastructure, your security of supply and you net zero ambitions.
A growing number of businesses and organisations across a range of sectors are coming to the realisation that procurement alone is not enough to deliver on their energy goals.
It’s fast approaching a year since the publication of ‘Delivering a ‘Net Zero’ National Health Service’, and suppliers have a critical role to play in meeting net zero targets and deadlines.
