On March 8, 2017, the Advertising Standard Agency (ASA) made a ruling against Powerstar’s advertising claims. This was in relation to the statement that Powerstar can make savings on electrical equipment efficiencies, and that 20-30% of the savings a Powerstar voltage optimisation system can achieve is generated in this way.
Whilst we maintain that Powerstar voltage optimisation solutions can achieve levels of savings in this manner, we acknowledge that it is not applicable to all electrical loads as there are a few exceptions, including electrical heating loads (such as kettles).
Powerstar collateral, which was in no way meant to mislead our valued customers, or the wider general public, has been updated to reflect the outcome. We have also included an independent verification section which substantiates the effectiveness of the Powerstar solutions.
During the course of the last 16 years, Powerstar systems have been installed across the world and the brand has become synonymous with delivering energy savings.
Recognised as a leading global market brand, we welcome the opportunity to prove the efficacy of our range of solutions. With this in mind, we recently had American Electric Power (AEP) at the renowned Dolan Research centre in Ohio carry out thorough laboratory testing.
A Powerstar system was submitted to a comprehensive set of tests under laboratory conditions to clearly verify the effects of the Powerstar system.
The most important aspect of the AEP results is not only the kWh savings (6.7% at 15V reduction) but the improvement in the equipment efficiency. Time to achieve the same results from identical input conditions was also reduced. Therefore, with Powerstar in circuit, there was 6.7% energy saving and it took the compressor less time to do the same job.
The AEP report provides clear evidence that running equipment at its design characteristics not only reduces the energy consumption but also improves the effectiveness of the machinery. It is Powerstar’s patented design that delivers such savings in energy (kWh) to be achieved on a load.

Powerstar is now looking towards the future and would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone who has supported the company over the years.
