Powerstar answer some of the most commonly asked questions surrounding the energy transition
Powerstar has appointed former Chief Technical Officer, Solon Mardapittas, to the role of Chief Executive Officer. The move will see former CEO and founder, Dr Alex Mardapittas, also take on a new role as Chairman of the Board, while also taking responsibility for heading Powerstar’s commercial functions.
As Chief Technical Officer, Solon has previously led Powerstar’s extensive Research and Development efforts as well as spearheading engineering, manufacturing and software teams across Powerstar’s various technology lines. He will now focus on continuing to drive Powerstar’s forward innovation in energy efficiency and resilience technologies as CEO.
Founded in 2001, Powerstar has grown to become the leading UK provider of voltage optimisation and behind-the-meter battery energy storage systems. In addition, Powerstar designs and manufactures low-loss transformers and produces intelligent control and monitoring software needed to ensure that each technology functions as efficiently as possible. Designed and engineered in the UK, Powerstar products are now exported to more than 20 countries worldwide.
In 2021, Powerstar announced significant investment from SCF Partners, a global investor in energy service providers, which has helped to drive record growth for the business in recent years and a rapidly growing order book.
Solon said of his appointment: “I am delighted to be taking on the role of CEO and would like to thank Alex for his work and dedication in getting Powerstar to where we are today. I look forward to sharing my vision and plans for continued growth over the coming months, with the support of Alex and other Board members.
Powerstar has an exceptional team, and our broad, and impressive, technical expertise allows us to provide world-class solutions to clients across all sectors. As a solutions-based business, our critical focus is to provide the very best customer experience, from initial contact through to post-installation. This, more than anything, encourages the rollout of technologies and means that we can continue to create stable growth for Powerstar while helping our clients access and implement technologies that both save energy and cut emissions.”
Chairman Dr Alex Mardapittas added: “Solon has been a fundamental force in shaping the business we have become. As he takes over the role of CEO, he will be leading the company with new ideas, to continue the rapid growth and success of Powerstar.”
Colin Welsh, International Partner at SCF and a Non-Executive Director at Powerstar, said: “Solon has all the characteristics needed to be a first-rate CEO and we look forward to supporting him as Powerstar continues to progress. I would also like to acknowledge the pivotal role that Dr Alex Mardapittas has played in the development of the business to date. Alex will continue to bear significant influence on the business as Chairman.”
