Partnering with a leading OEM in the mining equipment sector, Powerstar delivered bespoke transformers designed for seamless integration into their mining solutions.
The client, which specialises in designing and manufacturing fireproof industrial switchgear, load centres, and control panels, required transformers capable of withstanding the harshest mining environments. These transformers would need to perform reliably under extreme temperatures, heavy dust, constant vibration, and high moisture levels – all while meeting precise electrical specifications.
The goal was clear: to provide robust, efficient, and dependable power solutions that would keep mining operations running smoothly, even in the most challenging conditions.
Challenge
Mining environments present unique challenges, including harsh mechanical stress, thermal cycling, and exposure to moisture and airborne particles. In such conditions, any transformer failure can lead to costly downtime and safety hazards, making reliability absolutely critical.
The requested transformers, which ranged from 1000kVA to 2000kVA. had to be fully compatible with the OEM’s existing mining equipment, meeting precise voltage, current, and connection requirements for a smooth integration. The transformers would also need to be engineered to withstand rugged conditions and provide reliable power for essential mining operations, including mining transformer Class ‘C’ insulation rated for 220°C to maintain performance under extreme heat.
Solution
Powerstar worked closely with the OEM to turn these operational needs into custom-built solutions. Built using a mitred core, the transformers were designed to minimise energy losses and offer improved efficiency for long-term durability.
Each transformer was meticulously tested, giving the client confidence that their equipment would operate safely and efficiently.
What started as a single transformer order grew into multiple units, solidifying a long-term strategic partnership between Powerstar and the OEM.
